Cleaning Up Week in Stabl Antar and Ezbet Khairallah (SAEK)

"The Cleaning Up Week" is an initiative undertaken by the Stabl Antar Dream Project, sponsored by Sohbet Kheir NGO (registered no. 2665 in 2006). The initiative, in cooperation with EEAA Egyptian Ministry of Environment and other competent authorities, aims to provide the community of Stabl Antar and Ezebt Khairallah with waste collection trucks.

The initiative depends on empowering the inhabitants of six streets in the aforementioned districts to clean their streets by the help of the Project's Community School students and volunteers. Furthermore, the project aims to educate the inhabitants of the importance of cleanliness and waste assortment techniques at the source.

Objectives
  • Educating the inhabitants of six streets in Ezbet Khairullah and Istabl Antr districts on: the importance of cleanliness and hygienic behavior and the ensuing grave impacts of littering and random waste dumping on their health and environment.
  • Training the targeted groups on waste assortment techniques and their importance. Moreover, the project in collaboration with EEAA and the Ministry of Environment will provide necessary waste bags, containers and trucks.
  • Cleaning up the six streets where the awareness campaigns have been implemented by the help of the community, Community School students and volunteers from the Project.
  • Training two families, working in the waste assortments, on safe and sound methods of waste assortment and segregation.
Needs
  • 30-60 volunteers.
  • T-shirts for the volunteers and participants of the initiative.
  • Cleaning tools (shovels, broomsticks…etc)
  • Gloves and waste bags (two colors)
  • Waste container for each street.
  • Waste collection trucks that would regularly operate in the streets. An application will be sent to the Ministry of Environment in that effect. The Association will rent a waste collection truck to clean up the district daily.

  • Khaled Bin al Waleed
  • Al Ameed al Laythy
  • Al Mala'ab
  • Vicinity of the Youth Centre
  • Al Sa'ada

Method of Implementation

The inhabitants will be educated one street at a time. Waste bins are going to be installed everyday on one of the six streets. On the seventh day, the Cleanup Day, the volunteers are going to cleanup the streets.
